Wootz steel.
Wootz where patterns appear due to the formation of large carbides as a result of high carbon content and slow cooling methods. The purpose of the process was not to derive any patterns, but to achieve the burning of harmful impurities (phosphorus, slag) and equal distribution of carbon in the workpiece.
